Gippsland’s Clean Energy Future
The Committee for Gippsland (C4G) have launched the ‘Gippsland’s Clean Energy Future – Through investment and growth’ prospectus, at the Morwell Innovation Centre recently.
In a week focusing on energy opportunities in Gippsland with the New Energy Conference in Sale, C4G’s CEO Tony Cantwell said the launch today was about paving the way for Gippsland’s clean energy future.
“Gippsland has been the powerhouse of Victoria for generations, and today’s launch highlights just why our region is central to Australia’s clean energy future,” Mr Cantwell said.
“Gippsland has unparalleled advantages that make it an exceptional place to invest in new energy opportunities.”
“This document showcases the strengths of Gippsland’s energy generating potential, whether it is offshore or onshore wind, hydrogen, our transmission networks, storage, or solar generating potential, Gippsland is well placed to continue generating energy well into the future.”
“The report also sets out the support required at all levels of government to help drive our clean energy future and ensure that opportunities for Gippsland communities and businesses are realised.”
Over the past 12 months, C4G in partnership with RDA Gippsland, have engaged with Gippsland industry, business, regional leaders across government agencies, local government, and the community in developing this work.
C4G Chair Rochelle Wrigglesworth said Gippsland had a proud history in energy generation and this prospectus shows a clear plan to continue powering the nation for generations to come.
“We want to capitalise on the opportunities that exist to power the clean energy economy for Gippsland’s future and this report offers a strategic framework to help attract investment. It reinforces the advantages of our natural resources, infrastructure, networks and workforce capabilities,” Ms Wrigglesworth said.
“This prospects has engaged extensively with industry, business, local government, regional leaders and the community in identifying a clean energy future for Gippsland and investment opportunities for our region.”
NOUS Consulting principal director Richard Bolt spoke at the launch to discuss the extensive engagement behind 'Gippsland’s Clean Energy Future', as well as the opportunities which will follow in helping deliver Gippsland’s clean energy future. Victorian Government upper house member for Gippsland and Minister for Regional Development, Water and Equality, Hon Harriet Shing joined the launch virtually to welcome clean energy opportunities for Gippsland.
The prospectus will also be presented as part of the Gippsland New Energy Conference taking place in Sale later this week.
